Remove the lift cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Lift Cylinder- Remove".Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Position the lift cylinder in Tool (A). The weight of the lift cylinder is 1630 kg (3590 lb).
Remove six bolts (3), two bolts (2), and the hard washers in order to disconnect head (10) from cylinder assembly (4) .
Slide rod assembly (11) and head (10) from cylinder assembly (4) .
Remove seal assembly (8) and two wear rings (7) from piston (9) .
Remove 6 twelve point head bolts (6) and the hard washers that fasten piston (9) to rod assembly (11). Remove piston (9) from rod assembly (11) .
Slide cylinder assembly (4) on rod assembly (11) and head (10). Hand tighten six bolts (3) and two bolts (2) that connect head (10) to cylinder assembly (4). Pull cylinder assembly (4) and head (10) from rod assembly (11). Remove head (10) from cylinder assembly (4) .
Remove wiper seal (18), U-cup seal (17), buffer seal (16), and wear ring (15) from head (10) .
Remove O-ring seal (12), backup ring (13), and O-ring seal (14) from head (10) .
If necessary, remove two plugs (5) and the O-ring seals from rod assembly (11) and cylinder assembly (4) .
