On certain M Series 2 Motor Graders that are equipped with the Machine Security System (MSS), the MSS status indicator lamp can illuminate RED in error when the system is in Bypass Mode and the key start switch is moved to the "START" position. The result of this condition will be that the engine will not crank. This can occur in the Bypass Mode regardless of whether a normal key is used or an MSS key is used.This condition can occur when operating with Steering Control ECM software beginning with the prior 451-5511 Implement Software Gp or the current Steering Control ECM 458-7139 Implement Software Gp .

If an attempt is made to start the engine on an MSS equipped machine while in the Bypass Mode and the problem that is described above is encountered, turn the key start switch to the OFF position. Repeat the starting procedure by turning the key start switch to the "START" position. After the key start switch is cycled to the "Start" position the second time, MSS status indicator lamp should not illuminate and the engine should crank and start. Note: An updated Steering Control ECM software file that is scheduled for release in 3Q 2015 will address this issue. A service magazine article will be published to inform the field that this issue has been addressed in the software update.`
