Which Generate This Code:This diagnostic code is recorded when the implement ECM does not recognize the harness code that is received from the Caterpillar Monitoring System on the data link (wires 944-OR and 945-BR).The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
The wrong Caterpillar Monitoring System harness code plug is installed.
One or more connections in the Caterpillar Monitoring System harness code circuit that should be shorted to ground has an open connection.
One or more connections in the Caterpillar Monitoring System harness code circuit that should be open is shorted to ground.
The implement ECM has the wrong software.System Response:Machine operation is not affected.Note: The machine response will be affected if a blank ECM has been installed and the ECM has the wrong harness code.Note: Ensure that CID 0270 FMI 02 is active and that the diagnostic code indicator is active.Test Step 1. CHECK THE MAIN DISPLAY MODULE.

Use the Caterpillar Monitoring System in order to change to service Mode 1. The harness code will be displayed in service Mode 1. See Service Manual, SENR1394, "Caterpillar Monitoring System", "Harness Code Mode" for the correct machine code.Expected Result:The Caterpillar Monitoring System is displaying the correct machine code.Results:
OK - The module displays the correct machine code. Proceed to test step 3.
NOT OK - The module does NOT display the correct machine code.Repair: Check the Caterpillar Monitoring System code plug harness and related wiring. Stop.Test Step 3. CHECK FOR THE PROPER SOFTWARE VERSION.
Use the ET to verify the part number of the software that is installed in the implement ECM. This information is displayed on the summary screen for the ET.Results:
OK - The software is correct. Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Recheck to ensure that CID 0270 FMI 02 is still active. If CID 0270 FMI 02 is still active, perform the previous steps again. If the cause of the problem is not found, replace the ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace". Stop.
NOT OK - The proper software is not installed. Repair: Obtain the proper software and reprogram the implement ECM. Stop.
