Be sure no one is working on or close to the machine before starting the engine or moving the machine.This machine is equipped with a neutral start switch in the propel system and must never be started by shorting the starter terminals or sudden unexpected movement may occur.Fasten the seat belt.
1. Move the vibratory control switch to the OFF position. 2. Move the propulsion control lever to the center/stop position. 3. Place the throttle control lever on the START position approximately one third throttle). 4 Turn the engine key switch (1) to the ON position.5. Depress starter button (2) Release the starter button after the engine starts.Below 0° C (32° F)
To prevent any accidental movement of the machine when engaging or disengaging the clutch assembly. The propulsion control lever must be in the STOP position.
Inject starting aid (ether), only while cranking the engine.Use sparingly, excessive ether without cranking can cause piston and ring damage.Wait approximately two seconds before injecting again.Use ether for cold starting purposes only.After every 30 seconds of engine cranking, allow 2 minutes for starting motor to cool before cranking again.

A coolant heater, fuel heater, jacket water heater or extra battery capacity may be required.At temperatures below -18°C. (0°F.), consult your Caterpillar dealer, or refer to the "Cold Weather Operation, Lubrication and Maintenance Guide", form SEBU5898, available from your Caterpillar dealer.

Batteries give off flammable fumes that can explode.Prevent sparks near the batteries. They could cause vapors to explode. Do not allow jump cable ends to contact each other or the machine.Do not smoke when checking battery electrolyte levels.Electrolyte is an acid and can cause personal injury if it contacts skin or eyes.Always wear eye protection when starting a machine with jump cables.Improper jump procedures can cause an explosion resulting in personal injury.Always connect jumper battery positive (+) to machine battery positive (+) and jumper battery negative (-) to engine ground (such as engine mount bolts).Jump only with a battery source and with the same voltage as the stalled machine.Turn off all lights and accessories on the stalled machine. Otherwise, they will operate when the jump source is connected.
When starting from another machine, make sure the machines do not touch. This could prevent damage to engine bearings and electrical circuits.
