Operate the engine at full rpm for maximum steering response. Operation below full throttle will slow turning rate and cause transmission overheating.When climbing steep grades, the direction and speed control lever must be moved SLOWLY to avoid engine stall and possible loss of machine control.Never attempt to make sharp turns at high speed.Release parking/secondary brake before operating the machine. Failure to release before operating will damage the parking/secondary brake and could result in a runaway machine.
During operation always run the compactor in high idle. Control overall compactor speed by selecting a gear range suitable for operating conditions.Maximum speed in each gear range are as follows: first gear 5.6 km/h (3.5 mph), second gear 12 km/h (7.5 mph), third gear 22.5 km/h (14 mph) and fourth gear 38.6 km/h (24 mph).When turning the compactor on a compacted surface always make slow, gradual turns to avoid scuffing of compacted surface.Use the water spray system to avoid picking up pieces of the compacted asphalt.The pressure and contact area exerted by each tire depends on the amount of air pressure in each tire. To determine the correct tire pressures for each job site, refer to the charts below. The PS-110 and PS-130 are shipped from the factory with 6 ply tires. The PS-180 is shipped from the factory with 10 ply tires.Ballast Information
Personal injury or death can result from machine tipover, when operating with improper ballast levels of water or wet sand.Operation without full ballast, could allow the ballast to shift and cause the machine to tip over.Always operate with the ballast tanks full when using water or wet sand.
The following tables give ground contact pressure for various combinations of tire pressure and wheel loads. To achieve the wheel loads shown at the top of the following charts, the following guide will be useful. Do not exceed 1360 kg (3000 lb) per wheel with the 4 or 6 ply tires or do not exceed 1815 kg (4000 lb) per wheel with 10, 12 or 14 ply tires.If a wheel load is desired that is between the empty machine weight and full water or wet sand weights, it is recommended that large rock or similar material be used that will not shift easily in the ballast tank and that the machine be weighed to determine if the desired wheel load is achieved.
