Marine EnginesReference: Special Instruction, SEHS8857, "Installation Of Service Replacement Woodward Governor Group."Description of Change: The new 3161 Governor for marine applications has a "Low Idle Offset" feature added internally to the governor. The low idle offset device provides a greater amount of droop at low idle. This results in improved stability of the engine fuel and reduces engine surge. The improvements are internal to the governor and a complete governor must be changed to provide the low idle offset feature. Incorrect air clutch controls and/or incorrect air fuel ratio settings can also contribute to instability complaints. Governor changes will not correct these problems.Adaptable To: The new 7E4536 Governor Group replaces the former 7C7720, 9Y1295, 9Y2759, 9Y2973, 9Y2974, 9Y2975, 9Y2976, 9Y2977, 9Y2978, 9Y2979 Governor Groups. The new governor is effective with 3606 (8RB369), 3608 (6MC294), 3612 (9RC71), 3616 (1PD42) Engines. The reference Special Instruction provides the information on changing the governor on the engine.
