Right Steering Cylinder Position Sensor connections
The MID 081, CID 2201 diagnostic code is associated with the Right Steering Cylinder Position Sensor.The position sensor provides a PWM input signal to the Drivetrain ECM that will indicate the position of the steering cylinder.The FMI 04 means that the Drivetrain ECM has detected that the input signal from the sensor and the voltage of the signal is below normal.

The Drivetrain ECM will use the position of the steering cylinder to calculate the angle of the front tires. The ECM will use this information along with other machine conditions to determine the torque commands that are sent to each of the electric drive traction motors. When the truck makes a turn, the ECM will adjust the torque and wheel speed commands that are sent to the motors.Note: The sensor is a PWM sensor that operates at a frequency of approximately 500 hz. The duty cycle of the PWM signal that is supplied to the ECM is measured in small increments. The changes in the duty cycle of the sensor cannot be measured with a digital multimeter.The possible conditions that can cause the Drivetrain ECM to activate this diagnostic code are:
The signal circuit is shorted to a ground source.
The sensor has failed.
The ECM has failed. Test Step 1. CHECK THE VOLTAGE OF THE SENSOR SIGNAL
Turn the key start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, insert the positive 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the signal contact 3 (wire E824-BR(Brown)). Insert the negative multimeter probe along the return contact 2 (wire K478-YL(Yellow)). The harness connector remains connected to the sensor.
Turn the key start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
Measure the DC voltage between contact 3 and contact 2. Expected Result:The voltage measurement is in the acceptable range of 1.0 VDC to 3.9 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage measurement is in the range of 1.0 VDC to 3.9 VDC. The sensor signal circuit voltage is correct.There is not a low voltage problem at this time. There could be an intermittent connection problem or short circuit problem. In order to check for an intermittent short circuit, proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The sensor circuit voltage measurement is below the normal range of 1.0 VDC to 3.9 VDC. The sensor signal voltage is not correct.Repair: The sensor signal circuit voltage is below the acceptable range. This condition could be caused by a sensor problem or could be caused by a circuit condition.In order to determine if the sensor is causing the problem, use a removal tool to remove the signal wire (E824-BR(Brown)) and socket from the connector body at contact 3.Turn the key start switch to the ON position. With the negative multimeter probe inserted along the return circuit at connector contact 2, insert the positive probe through the back of the vacant hole at contact 3. Use the probe to contact
