A 1U-9900 Hydraulic Cylinder Repair Stand 1 Start By:
Remove the steering cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Cylinder- Remove".Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Position the steering cylinder in Tool (A). The weight of the steering cylinder is 425 kg (930 lb).
Remove eight bolts (10) and the washers in order to disconnect head (9) from cylinder assembly (4) .
Slide rod assembly (11) and head (9) from cylinder assembly (4) .
Remove seal assembly (7) and wear ring (6) from piston (8) .
Remove locknut (5) that fastens piston (8) to rod assembly (11). Remove piston (8) from rod assembly (11) .
Slide cylinder assembly (4) on rod assembly (11) and head (9). Hand tighten head (9) to cylinder assembly (4). Pull cylinder assembly (4) and head (9) from rod assembly (11). Remove head (9) from cylinder assembly (4) .
Remove lip seal (17), U-cup seal (16), seal assembly (15), and wear ring (14) from head (9) .
Remove O-ring seal (1) and backup ring (2) from head (9) .
Remove bearing (12) and seal assembly (13) from rod assembly (11) and cylinder assembly (4) .
If necessary, remove two plugs (3) and the O-ring seals from rod assembly (11) and cylinder assembly (4) .
