The CID 0299 diagnostic code is associated with the transmission lever position sensor. The position sensor is a PWM sensor that operates at a frequency of approximately 500 Hz. The sensor has an operating duty cycle of 4% to 96%. The FMI 08 diagnostic code is recorded when the Power Train ECM detects the duty cycle out of the expected range for more than 1 second.Note: The sensor requires calibration in order to generate the diagnostic code.Note: This diagnostic code indicates an intermittent condition.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The signal circuit is shorted to the +battery or shorted to ground intermittently.
The signal circuit is open intermittently or the sensor is disconnected.
The sensor may have failed.
The ECM may have failed. This condition is unlikely.Note: This procedure can cause new diagnostic codes to be recorded. Ignore these newly created diagnostic codes. When this procedure has been completed, clear the newly created diagnostic codes.System Response:
A Level 3 warning will be generated. Test Step 1. CHECK FOR POWER AT THE SENSOR
Do not disconnect the harness connector from the sensor.
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along contact 1 (wire 123-WH(White)) for the supply voltage.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage from contact 1 (wire 123-WH(White)) to contact 2 (wire 202-BK(Black)). Expected Result:The voltage is nominally 24 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage is 24 VDC. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The voltage is not 24 VDC. The circuit is open.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT OF THE SENSOR
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Remove the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe from contact 1. Contact 1 is located at the back of the sensor harness connector. Touch the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe to contact 3 (wire 851-WH(White)).
Touch the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe to contact 2 (wire 202-BK(Black)). Contact 2 (wire 202-BK(Black)) is a ground connection. Contact 2 (wire 202-BK(Black)) is located at the back of the sensor harness connector.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Monitor the signal of the sensor with a 146-4080 Digital Multimeter.
Place the shift lever in the Forward, Neutral, and Reverse positions. Review the duty cycle of the sensor in each position. The sensor and the hardware of the sensor should remain connected. Expected Result:The sensor signal responds in the manner that is described below.Note: The sensor must be calibrated. The sensor calibrates in Neutral within the 32.9% to 44.7% range.Valid Neutral
The range is plus 9% from calibrated Neutral.Valid Forward
The range is 96% from calibrated Neutral.Valid Reverse
The range is from minus 15% to calibrated Neutral.Results:
OK - The sensor signal responds correctly. The sensor is operating correctly. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The sensor signal does not respond correctly. The sensor is not operating correctly.Repair: Replace the sensor.STOPTest Step
