Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the valve mechanism covers. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Disconnect harness assembly (2) and the clips. Loosen clamp (1) and disconnect the hose from the side of the valve mechanism cover base. Disconnect sensor (3) from the valve mechanism cover base.

Remove bolts (4) and washers (6) .
Remove isolators (7) and isolator sleeves (8) .
Remove valve mechanism cover base (5) and base gasket (9) .Installation Procedure

Install base gasket (9) and valve mechanism cover base (5) on the cylinder head.
Install isolator sleeves (8) and isolators (7) .
Install washers (6) and bolts (4) . Tighten the bolts in a numerical sequence. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 28 7 N m (21 5 lb ft).

Install sensor (3) .
Connect harness assembly (2) and the clips.
Connect the hose to the side of the valve mechanism cover base and tighten clamp (1) .End By: Install the valve mechanism covers. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install".
