Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Drain the coolant from the aftercooler core and the water lines into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities".

Remove elbows (1) from aftercooler cover (2) .

Remove bolts (4) and aftercooler cover (2). Remove gasket (7) .
Remove adapters (9), adapters (8), and the O-ring seals.
Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to aftercooler core (5). The weight of aftercooler core (5) is approximately 45 kg (100 lb). Remove bolts (6) and aftercooler core (5) .
Remove the bolts and aftercooler housing (10) .
Remove gasket (11) .
