At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
1. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly loosening the filler cap on the radiator. Drain the coolant from the cooling system below the level of the water temperature regulator. 2. Loosen hose clamps (3), and remove inlet tube (1) and hose (2). 3. Remove four bolts (7) and wire support clip (4).4. Remove cylinder head outlet pipe (5) and the gasket from the cylinder head assembly. 5. Remove water temperature regulator (8) from the cylinder head 1ssembly.Install Water Temperature Regulator
1. Clean all gasket material and rust from the contact surfaces.
If the water temperature regulator is installed wrong, it will cause the engine to overheat. Make sure the vent hole is open and do not use liquid gasket material on the gasket. The cylinder head can be damaged if the vent hole is not open or if the gasket is installed wrong.
2. Install water temperature regulator (1) in the cylinder head assembly with the spring toward the inside as shown.3. Install gasket (3) with the notch over vent hole (2) in the cylinder head assembly. 4. Put cylinder head outlet pipe (5) and support clip (4) in position. Install four bolts (6). 5. Put inlet tube (7) and hose (8) in position, and tighten hose clamps (9) that hold them in place.6. Fill the cooling system to the correct level with coolant.
