Location of parts that can be added to angle hydraulic cylinders on earlier bulldozers.The two additional washers shorten the stroke slightly. This causes the bolt head in the retracted cylinder to contact the head end (eye end) of the cylinder before the piston in the opposite extended cylinder contacts the rod end of the cylinder. This reduces the possibility of stretching the bolt by providing a positive stop for the bolt head. Without the additional washers, it is possible for the extended piston to contact the crown before the retracted piston bottoms out against the head end of the cylinder. The hydraulic pressure plus the load on the rear of the blade could eventually break the piston bolt in the extended cylinder.
Adaptable To: The new hardware can be added to the angling cylinders on earlier D4H and D5H Tractors. See illustration for the applicable parts needed. Modify both cylinders at the same time. When the blade is moved to the full angle, if the extending cylinder bottoms out before the retracting cylinder, the new hardware should be added.
