start by:a) remove steering clutches The steering clutch hubs do not have to be removed for the removal of the final drive pinion shafts and flanges. 1. Install a bolt and two nuts that will fit in a hole on the outside diameter of the flange toward the bottom of the steering clutch case. Put a wood block between the bolt and the bottom of the steering clutch case. The bolt will hold the flange in position when nut (1) is loosened.2. Remove bolt, lock and nut (1) from the pinion shaft. Install nut (1) back on the pinion shaft until there is a distance of 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) between the nut and flange. The flange is installed with a force of several tons. The nut will keep the flange on the shaft after it is removed from the tapered splines. 3. Install tooling (A) on the flange. Remove the flange (2). Remove tooling (A) and the nut from the pinion shaft. Remove the flange from the pinion shaft.4. Remove the Duo-Cone seals from the flange and cage. Put identification on the seals for correct installation. 5. Remove the bolts that hold the cage in position. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws in the cage. Tighten the screws evenly until the cage is loose. Remove cage (3).6. Remove pinion shaft (4) from the final drive case. 7. Remove the plug from the cage with tool (B). 8. Remove the two bearing races from the pinion shaft with tooling (C).Install Final Drive Pinion Shafts And Flanges
1. Heat the two bearing races (1) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install the two bearing races on the pinion shaft until they make contact with the shoulders on the shaft.2. Install the pinion shaft (2) in the final drive case. 3. Install the bearing in the cage with tooling (A). Install the ring that holds the bearing in position. Make sure the hole in the bearing is in alignment with the hole in the cage. 4. Install dowel (3) in the cage and into the bearing.5. Install a new plug over the dowel. 6.
