Information:
start by:a) remove steering clutch hubs 1. Bend all of the locks (2) straight.2. Put a wood block under the bevel gear in the bevel gear case. The wood block is used as a support for the bevel gear and a stop to hold the gear when nuts (1) are loosened.3. Loosen nuts (1). 4. Remove the bolts that hold cage (3) in position. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws in the cage. Tighten the screws evenly until the cage is loose. Remove the cage and shims. Put identification on the shims for correct installation.5. Remove the nuts (1), bolts and locks that hold the bevel gear to the bevel gear shaft.6. Remove the bevel gear and shaft.7. Remove the other cage from the bevel gear case as in Step 4. 8. Remove the bearing cups from the cages with tooling (A). 9. Remove the two bearings from the bevel gear shaft with tooling (B).Install Bevel Gear And Shaft (Direct Drive And Special Application)
1. Lower the temperature of the bearing cups and install them in the cages until they make contact with the bottom of the counterbores in the cages. 2. Heat the two bearings (1) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install the bearings on the shaft as shown. 3. Fasten a hoist to shaft (2). Lower the shaft in the steering clutch case.4. Install the original thickness of shims and the cage in the right side of the bevel gear case.5. Put the bevel gear in position in the bevel gear case. Push the shaft through the bevel gear and into the cage on the right side. Install the bolts, locks and nuts that hold the bevel gear to the shaft. Do not tighten the nuts. 6. Install cage (4) and the original thickness of shims in the left side of the bevel gear case. If the original thickness of shims is not known, see BEVEL GEAR AND PINION SHAFT SETTINGS (DIRECT DRIVE AND SPECIAL APPLICATION).7. Install bolts (3) that hold the cage in position. 8. Put a wood block under the bevel gear. The wood block is used as a support for the gear and a stop when nuts (5) are tightened. Make sure the bevel gear does not turn. Tighten nuts (5).
