Separate the tracks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Separate".
Remove the axles. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the oil from the transmission and the bevel gear housing.

Turn the final drive until plug (2) is on the bottom. Drain the oil from the final drive housing.
Remove bolts (1) from the top of the final drive.

Adjust bracket (3) until the bracket is against the stop on Tooling (A) .

Fasten a hoist and Tooling (A) to final drive (4), as shown.Note: Do not remove bolts (6) that hold the steering clutch and brake to the final drive.
Remove bolts (5) and (7). Remove the final drive and the steering clutch as an assembly. The weight of the final drive, steering clutch, and brake assembly is 544 kg (1200.0 lb).

Remove O-ring seals (8) and (9) from the steering clutch and the brake housing.
