Block Diagram of the Power Train SystemThe Power Train Electronic Control Module (ECM) shifts the machine's transmission. Shifting of the transmission is based on the conditions that are listed below:
The transmission output speed (TOS)
The position of the shift lever
The position of the position sensor (inching pedal)The power train ECM processes information from the input components. The ECM directs commands to a specific combination of solenoids. The solenoids that are used depend on the speed and the direction that is requested. If a failure occurs, the ECM directs a signal to the Caterpillar Monitoring System in order to alert the operator of a problem. The technician has two methods of diagnosing problems with the transmission electrical system, the Electronic Technician via the service tool connector or the Caterpillar Monitoring System.
