Right Side of Operator's Compartment (42) Cushion-hitch switchThe cushion-hitch connects the tractor and the scraper. The cushion-hitch uses hydraulics and pressurized nitrogen gas to minimize the vertical movements of the machine.The cushion-hitch can be turned on and off. The cushion-hitch should be turned on, except when the material is being loaded and when the material is being unloaded. When the cushion-hitch is activated, the machine can travel faster. This will decrease the total cycle time between loads.The hydraulic system of the cushion-hitch has three major components. The three major components are listed below.

The hitch assemblyBracket assembly (29) is attached to the scraper. The hitch assembly is connected to the tractor. Upper link assembly (30) and lower link assembly (31) connect bracket assembly (29) and the hitch assembly.The rod end of load cylinder (19) is connected to bracket assembly (29). The head end of load cylinder (19) is connected to the hitch assembly.The hydraulic oil tank supplies hydraulic oil to cushion-hitch piston pump (11) .Drain line (40) to the implement pump supply line drains the hydraulic fluid from the case of cushion-hitch piston pump (11). A drain screen is located at the end of drain line (40). The drain screen prevents large contaminants from flowing into the main hydraulic suction line.The cushion-hitch may be turned on and off by cushion-hitch switch (42). Cushion-hitch switch (42) is located inside the operator compartment on the right.When cushion-hitch switch (42) is turned off, the cushion-hitch is locked into position. When cushion-hitch switch (42) is turned on, the cushion ride mode is activated.When cushion-hitch switch (42) is turned off, bracket assembly (29) and the hitch assembly are held in contact with each other. The hydraulic oil pressure in the rod end of load cylinder (19) holds these two assemblies together.When the engine is started, cushion-hitch switch (42) must be turned off before the cushion ride mode may be activated.
