Open the AC breaker.
Disconnect the DC battery supply.

Remove cover plate (1) .

Remove nut (2) and washer (3) .

Note: Permanent magnet pilot exciter (PMG) rotor (4) is permanently magnetized.
Install Tooling (A). Remove PMG rotor (4) .

Note: Orientation of shaft extension (5) for reassembly.
Remove shaft extension (5) .

Note: Orientation of housing (8) for reassembly.
Disconnect harness assembly (6) from the Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR)
Remove bolts (7) and housing (8). Installation Procedure

Note: Inspect stud (9) for looseness and damage to the threads. When replacement or retightening are needed then apply Tooling (B) to the threads of stud (9 ) before installing into the main rotor shaft.
Install housing (8) and bolts (7). Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 8.3 N m (73.46 lb in).
Connect harness assembly (6) to the AVR.

Note: PMG rotor (4) is permanently magnetized. Be aware of pinch points during installation.
Install Tooling (A) into PMG rotor (4) .
Install shaft extension (5) into PMG rotor (4) .
Install PMG rotor into housing (8) .
Remove Tooling (A) from PMG rotor (4) .

Install washer (3) and nut (2). Tighten nut (2) to a torque of 116 N m (86 lb ft).

Install cover plate (1) .
Connect the DC battery supply.
Close the AC breaker.
