Torque Converter Stator Carrier Rework Procedure

Replacement Parts Required1) 2 pcs of 208-1497 bearing race1 pc of 1T-0736 bearing
Process
Remove the torque converter races and bearing.Measure both races 8 times in 45Deg increments to measure the thicknessvariation. Record the measurements in the attached sheet.
Before the grinding operation on the stator carrier,remove the seal rings on the TC stator shaft. Tape a plastic bag over thehousing with a hole large enough for the stator carrier.
Place a tight bundle of paper towels in the centerof the stator assembly to protect the inside to the torque converter frommachining debris and blow out the stator surface.
The bearing race "rock" is measured using 2 goodbearing races and a dial indicator. Put the first race on the stator racesurface and the second at the top of the stator. Set the dial indicatoron the second race. Make sure the dial indicator is between the 2 setsof ball plugs. Holding down on the dial indicator base, press down 180degopposite on the race sitting on the stator race surface. Record the amountof race 'rock' in the attached sheet.
Remove the 2 races and measure the amount of raisedmaterial around the ball plugs. First, zero the dial indicator away fromthe ball plugs on the stator race surface. Then, slide the indicator aroundthe ball plugs and measure the raised surface, especially the area betweenthe 2 closest ball plugs. Record these 'Pre-Rework' measurements in theattached sheet.
Grind the raised areas down using the tool withScotch-Brite pad. Carefully and progressively remove 0.013mm (0.0005in)material at a time and measure the amount of raised material. Be carefulnot to press too hard and remove too much material in one operation. Theareas around the ball plugs should be at 0.000mm or 0.013mm (0.0005in)below the surface.
Recheck the bearing 'rock'. Measurements shouldbe no more than 0.0025mm (0.0001in). Record the measurements in the attachedsheet.
When complete, the surface looks like this. Carefullyclean this surface and remove all debris generated by the rework process.
Replace with the 2 new races (208-1497) and thenew bearing (1T-0736).
Install new race 42 then bearing 41 and finallythe second race 40 onto shaft. Lightly lubricate bearing with oil.

Retarder Supply Tube Inspection Procedure
Refer to RENR3448 section to remove the torqueconverter housing. The torque converter assembly weighs 243 kg (535 lb).
Inspect the tube by looking into the port describedbelow.
Measure the distance from the spot-face on thecase to the end the tube. The distance should not exceed 6 mm.
If the distance does exceed 6mm, then remove theconverter
