Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
Release the pressure in the steering system and in the braking system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure- Release".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Thoroughly clean the outside of the parking brake and the adjacent area of the output transfer gear case prior to disassembly.

Disconnect hose assembly (1) from parking brake (2). Plug hose assembly (1).

Remove bolts (3) from the storage location in plate (4).

Install bolts (3) in plate (4), as shown.
Tighten bolts (3) evenly until solid resistance is felt in order to release the parking brake manually.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the rear loader frame under the cab.
Attach Tooling (B) to the parking brake at bolt (5). Bolt (5) is identified by the notch in the brake housing.
Attach Tooling (A) to Tooling (B) in order to support parking brake (2).
Remove bolts (7). Do not remove bolts (5) and (6). Bolts (5) and (6) hold the parking brake assembly together. Bolts (5) and (6) are identified by notches in the housing.
Carefully remove parking brake (2) from the output transfer gear case. Use Tooling (A), Tooling (B), and the suitable lifting device in order to lower parking brake (2) to the ground. The weight of parking brake (2) is approximately 159 kg (350 lb).
