Information:

1. Remove cotter pin (1) and castle nut (2).
Be careful not to damage castle nut (2) or the threaded diameter on the balljoint end of the tie rod when striking the castle nut with a hammer. If necessary, use tooling (A) to remove the balljoint end of tie rod (3) from steering housing (4).
2. Turn castle nut (2) over and screw the castle nut on the balljoint end of tie rod (3) to protect the threaded portion of the balljoint. Strike castle nut (2) with a hammer to remove the balljoint end of tie rod (3) from steering housing (4). Remove castle nut (2). The upper kingpin may have been shimmed in order to obtain the proper kingpin bearing preload. Keep the shim with the corresponding kingpin.3. Remove four bolts (5) and remove upper kingpin assembly (6) and the shim. 4. Fasten tooling (B) and a hoist to steering housing (4) as shown.
Support the end of the axle shaft during the removal of the steering housing and the steering knuckle from the axle housing. The tapered roller bearing located on lower kingpin (7) may fall during the removal of the axle housing.
5. Remove four bolts (8) and remove lower kingpin assembly (7). Slide the steering knuckle and steering housing (4) as a unit from the axle housing. Weight of the unit is 73 kg (161 lb). 6. If necessary, remove tapered roller bearing (9) and sealing cap (10) from the upper and lower kingpins. Remove the O-ring seal located between each sealing cup (10) and the kingpin. 7. Remove two bearing cups (11) from axle housing (12). 8. Pull sun gear shaft (14) out far enough to obtain access to snap ring (13).9. Remove snap ring (13), spacer (15) and thrust washer (17) from sun gear shaft (14).10. If necessary, remove wear ring (16). 11. Remove sun gear shaft (14) and the swivel joint as a unit from steering housing (4). 12. Remove seal (19) from steering housing (4).13. If necessary, remove bushing (18). 14. Remove seal (20) from axle housing (12).15. If necessary, remove bushing (21). 16. Expand clip (24) and tap double joint (23) with a soft hammer to remove the double joint from axle shaft (25).17. Remove dust seal (22) from double joint (23). 18. Expand clip (26) and tap double joint (23) with a soft hammer to remove the double joint from sun gear shaft (14).Assemble Steering Knuckle And Swivel Joint
Be sure the clips (24) and (26) are fully engaged in the grooves of shafts (14) and (25).
1. Expand clip (26) and install sun gear shaft (14) in double joint (23).2. Expand clip (24) and install axle shaft (25) in double joint (23).3. Slide dust seal (22) on double joint (23). 4. If removed, install bushing (21) in axle housing (12).
Install seal (20) located in axle housing (12) with the seal lip facing toward bushing (21).
5. Use tooling (C) and install seal (20) in axle housing (12). Put a light film of oil on
