Information:
Step 1. Verify that the voltage adjustment is not set too low. Results:
OK - The voltage adjustment is correct. Go to Step 2.
Not OK - The voltage adjustment is too low. Repair: Adjust the voltage to the correct level. Slowly adjust the potentiometer for the voltage "P1" until the output voltage reaches the rated value. Adjust the potentiometer "P2" for the stability if it is necessary. STOPTest Step 2. Verify that the underfrequency setpoint (knee frequency) is not greater than the operating frequency for the generator. Refer to the appropriate section in this manual. The generator set must always operate above the setting for the knee frequency. Results:
OK - The operating frequency and the underfrequency setpoint is correct. Go to Step 3.
Not OK - The underfrequency setpoint is too high.Repair: Adjust the setpoint below the rated generator frequency.STOPTest Step 3. Verify that the generator is running at rated speed. Results:
OK - The generator is running at rated speed. Go to Step 4.
Not OK - The generator is not at rated speed. Repair: Increase the generator speed to the rated level.STOPTest Step 4. Check for the correct input voltage to the voltage regulator. Refer to this Service Manual, KENR9008, "Specifications" section for input power requirements. Results:
OK - The voltage is at the required level. Go to Step 7
Not OK - The input voltage for the voltage regulator is low. Repair: Troubleshoot and repair the wiring connections.STOPTest Step 5. Measure the difference between the voltage that is sensed and the rated voltage. Refer to this Service Manual, KENR9008, "Specifications" section for input voltage specifications. Results:
OK - The sensing voltage and the power voltage do not exceed the maximum limits. STOP
Not OK - Go to Step 6Test Step 6. Shut off the generator set. Check the diodes. Refer to Service Manual, KENR8205, "Rotating Rectifier - Test" and follow the procedure in order to test the rectifier. Results:
OK - The rotating rectifier is good. Go to Step 7
Not OK - The rotating rectifier is bad.Repair: Repair the rotating rectifier or replace the rotating rectifier.STOPTest Step 7. Shut off the generator set. Check the resistance of the generator windings. Refer to Service Manual, KENR8205, "Winding - Test" and follow the procedure in order to test the generator windings. Results:
OK - The generator windings are good. Go to Step 8.
Not OK - The windings fail the test for resistance.Repair: Repair the generator windings.STOPTest Step 8. If the generator voltage drops too low when the generator is loaded, measure the voltage between terminal "E+" and terminal "E-". The voltage should increase with the load. Refer to TMI for the expected value. Results:
OK - The voltage and current values are correct. Go to Step 9
Not OK - The Voltage and Current values are not correct. Go to Step 11.Test Step 9. Check the varistor. Refer to Service manual, KENR8205, "Varistor – Test" and follow the procedure. Results:
OK - Go to step 10
Not OK - The varistor is bad.Repair: Replace the varistor.STOPTest Step 10. Verify the connected load. Verify that the generator set is
