AWD lamp circuitTest Step 1. CHECK THE DIAGNOSTICS AND EVENTS
Use the Messenger or the Caterpillar® Electronic Technician (Cat® ET) service tool to view the following:
Active event codes
Active logged event codes
Active diagnostic codes
Active logged diagnostic codes
Correct all the all wheel drive (AWD) ECM codes from the previous step. See the following sections of this manual:
Troubleshooting, "Event Code List"
Troubleshooting, "Using Messenger to Determine Diagnostic Codes"
Troubleshooting, "Using Caterpillar Electronic Technician to Determine Diagnostic Codes"
Turn on the disconnect switch and the keyswitch.
Observe the indicator lamp after the 3 second start-up test is complete.Expected Result:The indicator lamp is off. Results:
OK - The indicator lamp is off.STOP
NOT OK - The indicator lamp is on. Repair: Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE LED INDICATOR LAMP CIRCUIT
Turn off the disconnect switch and the keyswitch.
Remove the AWD ECM J2 connector from the AWD ECM.
Use a 151-6320 Removal Tool to remove the involved LED circuit wire from the AWD ECM J2-9 or J2-10 connector.Note: Wire M902-OR from contact J2-9 if the AWD System Indicator LED is on continuously. Wire M901-YL from contact J2-10 if the AWD Engaged Indicator LED is on continuously.
Reconnect the AWD ECM J2 connector.
Turn on disconnect switch and the keyswitch.Expected Result:The indicator lamp is off.Results:
OK - The indicator lamp is off. The circuit is correct. The ECM may have failed, however, ECM failure is unlikely.Repair: Ensure that there are no conditions that would cause the ECM to turn on the indicator. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the cause of the problem is not found, contact the Technical Communicator at your Cat® dealer.If ECM replacement is required, see Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
NOT OK - The indicator lamp is on. The circuit (wire M902-OR) or the (wire M901-YL) is shorted to the frame ground. Repair: Repair or replace the harness.STOP
