Indications That The Relay Needs To Be Installed
The unit is not working.
Connect to the unit using Cat Electronic Technician (Cat ET).
If there is a 556-7 code for a shutdown, clear the code, and monitor Cat ET for injector disabled.As soon as the engine starts then the injector disable should go away. If the injector disable does not go away, then the unit will crank over.
The unit may start and run. Then while running, the injection disable status flag will come on, and unit will either shut down or will start to shut down and then come back up to full RPM.Checking For A Faulty Relay

If you have label tags showing on Cat ET and the engine will keep spinning over but will not start, make an insulated wire jumper. Use the wire to jumper the terminals with wire number 13 and wire number 14 while the unit is turning over. The unit should start.Items Required For External Relay Bypass

2-12 inch wires (16 AWG)
Two RED forked spades of size 16 - 14 AWG
Four BLUE female spades of size 16 - 14 AWGFabricate two jumpers using components from the list above. Each jumper will have a red forked spade lug on one end, and a blue spade lug on the other end. Refer to Illustration 2.

Remove the bottom left lock nut from the EMCP and slide the Relay on and then screw the nut back in place.

Remove wire number 13 and wire number 14 from the top left of the EMCP.

Remove the cable ties that are holding the wire number 13 and wire number 14 in place. Then cut off forked spades (Red) and replace with new blue female spades.

Take the 2-12 inch leads you made and insert the leads on terminal 24 (B+) (fifth from the TOP on the RIGHT) and on terminal 28 (B-) (Top terminal on the RIGHT). Refer to Illustration 7.

Connect Wire 13 (2) to Terminal 30, Wire 14 (3) to Terminal 87, Wire 24 (4) to Terminal 86 (B+), and Wire 28 (5) to Terminal 85 (B-) as shown in Illustration 8.

Note: If a new EMCP has to be installed remove the Blue female spades and attach the red forked spades, then insert the wire number 13 and wire number 14 back into the slots on the new EMCP.
