Install bearing assembly (17) and bearing cage (16) in the planetary case, if the bearing assembly and bearing cage were previously removed.
Illustration 2 g01032777
Put a 3.20 mm (0.125 inch) continuous bead of Tooling (A) on the mounting flange of input shaft (8). Position input shaft cap (8) on the planetary case and install the washers and bolts (7).
Illustration 3 g01032790
Install bearings (12) on input gear (9) .
Illustration 4 g01032869
During the application of Tooling (A) on pinion bearing cage (18), do not let the sealant enter lubrication hole (19). The sealant could block the flow of oil.
Put a 3.20 mm (0.125 inch) continuous bead of Tooling (A) on pinion bearing cage (18). The sealant should go around the inner edge of all fasteners in order to ensure complete sealing. Ensure that the sealant does not get into lubrication hole (19) .
Illustration 5 g01032802
Position planetary case (15) on the carrier and install nuts (14) and the washers.
Install key (13) on the pinion shaft.
Illustration 6 g01032839
Install input gear (9) in the planetary case, but do not press the gear to the bottom of the case at this time.
Install planetary drive gear (11). Tip the gear slightly so the teeth of both gears mesh. Then lower the gear onto the pinion shaft. Use a soft faced hammer to seat the input gear in the planetary case.
Install the washer and inner nut (10). Tighten inner nut (10) until the rolling torque of bearing cage (18) is 0.6 to 2.8 N m (5 to 25 lb in). Several adjustments of inner nut (10) may be required in order to obtain the correct rolling torque. If the correct rolling torque can not be obtained, replace the bearing spacer in bearing cage (18). A thinner spacer will increase the rolling torque. A thicker spacer will decrease the rolling torque.
Illustration 7 g01032773
Install a new lock washer (5) and outer nut (6). Tighten the outer nut (6) to a torque of 400 N m (300 lb ft). Check the rolling torque of bearing cage (18) again. If necessary, readjust the rolling torque. Bend the tab on lock washer (5) onto outer nut (6) .
Illustration 8 g01032771
Install retaining ring (4) in planetary cover (3) .
Illustration 9 g01032768
Install two locating dowels (1) .
Put a 3.20 mm (0.125 inch) continuous bead of Tooling (A) on the mounting flange of planetary cover (3). Install the planetary cover on the case. Install bolts (2), the washers, and the nuts that secure the planetary cover.
Fill the planetary case with oil. The capacity of the case is 0.95 L (0.250 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Every 1000 Service Hours or 1 Year" for the correct filling procedure.End By: Install the axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle - Install".
