Location of 3P2546 Shim Packs in the 7G63 Bevel and Transfer Gear Group. Two 3P2546 Shim Packs also are used between the inner bearing cage and the housing to adjust the bevel gear and pinion backlash. (See the Illustration.) The backlash must be adjusted before the bearing end play is adjusted.Each shim pack is made up of 10 shims, 0.13 mm (.005") thick; 6 shims, 0.05 mm (.002") thick; and 2 shims, 0.81 mm (.032") thick. The maximum thickness that can be used is 0.18 mm (.007"). DO NOT use the two 0.81 mm (.032") thick shims.
Use only enough shims to get the necessary bearing end play.
