Flushing Procedure
(1) If the machine is equipped with a ripper, either remove the ripper shank or shanks and lower the ripper beam to the ground; or force the shank or shanks into the ground as deep as possible to extend the lift cylinders.(2) Lower the dozer blade to the ground.(3) Drain the hydraulic tank and remove the hydraulic filter.(4) Remove the pins from the rod ends of the dozer lift cylinders. Remove the head bolts and pull the cylinder heads, pistons and rod assemblies from the dozer lift cylinders.(5) Remove the pins from the rod ends of the ripper lift cylinders. Remove the head bolts and pull the cylinder heads, pistons, and rod assemblies from the ripper lift cylinders.
To decrease the possibility of injury or death, make sure the ripper shank has been removed or lowered into the ground as shown in Step 1. If this is not practical, block the carriage assembly or beam assembly to prevent movement when the tip (pitch) cylinders are disconnected. If the shank or shanks have been removed and the carriage assembly or beam assembly lowered to the ground, make sure the carriage or beam assembly are blocked to prevent movement.
(6) Remove pins from the rod ends of the ripper tip (pitch) cylinders. Remove the head bolts and pull the cylinder heads, piston and rod assemblies from the tip cylinders.(7) Disconnect and drain the hydraulic oil from all readily accessible hydraulic hoses and tubes.(8) Assemble and install a new hydraulic filter. Fill the hydraulic system with engine classification CC (MIL-L-2104B or MIL-L-46152), CD or industrial type hydraulic oil that is certified by the supplier as having anti-wear, anti-foam, anti-rust and anti-oxidation additive properties for heavy duty use of the viscosity recommended in the Maintenance Guide.(9) Operate the machine for one-half hour at 75% of rated engine speed; and at the same time operate all hydraulic circuits. Check the water content of the oil. If it is more than 1%, drain the hydraulic tank and cylinders. Do not use the oil again.(10) Again, install a new filter and fill the hydraulic system. Operate the machine for one hour at 75% of rated engine speed; and at the same time operate all hydraulic circuits. Check the water content of the hydraulic oil. If the water content is more than 1%, repeat the above operation.(11) Check the hydraulic oil for water every 50 hours for a total of 250 hours. A progressive increase in the amount of water in the oil could indicate that a leakage problem still exists with the hydraulic oil cooler.
