Information:
new Caterpillar products are replacing previous non-lighted switches with new lighted rocker switches. These lighted rocker switches can be broken if the rear connector is not correctly removed while being serviced.
Switches with 10 blade terminals can require up to 70 pounds of force to separate the connector from the switch. This force far exceeds the strength of the switch housing tabs that hold the two halves of the switch together.
Use the following procedure when servicing lighted rocker switches:
1. Remove the rocker switch from the mounting panel.2. Grasp the switch with one hand on the long side of the base adjacent to the blade terminals. DO NOT hold the mounting flange or frame of the switch.3. With the other hand, grasp the connector shell. Pull the connector off the switch terminals with a straight-line force while gently rocking the held parts until the connector separates. This step can also be done by carefully prying these two parts out of engagement with a small screwdriver. This procedure can be adapted to any Caterpillar product using lighted rocker switches.
