Machine Appearance
The appearance of the machines is being standardized to display a common marking scheme for all 300 Family Excavators. The model numbers, corporate design and striping are uniform for all models regardless of manufacturing source. Also, a die-formed counterweight shell is used specifically on 320 Excavators.
Cab Improvements
The following operator comfort details will be included across the complete 300 Family line. The item reference in the list () identifies the improvement shown in Illustration 1.* A modified monitor panel console with reduced area and increased knee space and added drink holder. (1)* Improved radio "On/Off" switch location if radio equipped.* Addition of a tray on the left console. (2)* Improved shape and angle for the control levers. (3)* Provision for storage of the skylight sunshade, if equipped.* Improved appearance and easy-to-grasp hydraulic circuit neutralizing lever. (4)

Maintenance improvements for the 320 Excavators include a new storage location near the radiator for the grease gun, adding a drain-cock on the engine oil reservoir, improved drain for the water separator (also 325), and relocation of the batteries to provide more utility storage. An addition of a suction connection line for the auxiliary pump is now on the 320, 325, and 330 machines equipped with a Rexroth pump. For improved maintenance, a synthetic rubber floor mat is used in the cab on all models.
Illustration 2. Storage location of grease gun from near hydraulic pumps to radiator area. Bolted side cover is now a hinged, openable door.
Illustration 3. Addition of engine oil drain cock.
Illustration 4. Relocated water separator for easier draining.Convenience and Practical Improvements
All machines will provide for automatic prevention of high engine rpm during start-up, adoption of a Power Mode Switch/Work Mode Switch (PMS/WMS) code memory, a fold-type mirror for easy transportation, improved radio antenna, and reduced rattling of bucket teeth.
New software in the EPC will prevent the governor from providing the required fuel to the engine until it is adequately lubricated. Before, if the engine was stopped and restarted with the governor selector dial at position "10" and the "One Touch Low Idle" function activated, the engine would return to the high idle "10" speed.
A memory incorporated into the Electronic Power Control will retain the previous Work Mode and Power Mode settings when the machine was stopped. Previously, work and power modes were reset to default levels ("PM2" and "Boom Priority").
New Service Procedures
New features requiring changes in servicing procedures are the standard automatic swing brake replacing the swing lock pin and use of the new "R134a" refrigerant to replace freon in air conditioning units.
Removal Of Swing Lock Pin
The new swing brake and removal of the "Swing Lock Pin" eliminates having to clean mud from the carbody to prepare for its use. Also, the improvement seals the cab from outside by eliminating an access hole which reduces operator noise levels and keeps dirt out of the cab.
