The MID 081, CID 0967 diagnostic code is associated with the machine ID that is entered into the Advisor at the initial machine setup. The Drivetrain ECM will request the machine ID information from the Advisor at machine startup and approximately every two minutes during machine operation. The Drivetrain ECM will use the CAN A data link for this communication with the Advisor.The machine ID consists of the serial number prefix and the serial number of the truck. The machine ID can be entered or viewed using the Advisor or using Cat ET. The FMI 09 indicates that the Drivetrain ECM is not receiving the correct machine ID.Possible conditions that can cause the Drivetrain ECM to activate this diagnostic code are:
The machine ID has not been entered into the Advisor or the machine ID is incorrect.
The software that is installed on the Advisor is incorrect.
There is a problem with the CAN A Data Link circuits between the Advisor and the ECM. This condition would most likely cause other data link communication codes to be activated.
The Drivetrain ECM is not updating the information that is received from the Advisor.Before performing this procedure, verify that there are no CID 0247 CAN A Data Link related diagnostic codes active. If a data link code is active, refer to the troubleshooting for the active code in this section of the manual in order to resolve the communication problem.Test Step 1. VERIFY THAT THE CORRECT MACHINE ID IS PROGRAMMED IN THE ADVISOR
Use the Advisor or Cat ET to view the current programmed machine ID. Expected Result:The machine ID is not correct.Results:
YES - The machine ID is not correct.Repair: Enter the correct machine ID for your machine.STOP
NO - The machine ID is correct. Repair: If the correct machine ID is entered in the Advisor, this diagnostic code should not be active.Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. FLASH THE LATEST VERSION OF SOFTWARE TO THE ADVISOR
Flash the Advisor with the latest version of software. Ensure that you have the latest version of software for your specific machine and Advisor.
After flashing the latest version of software to the Advisor, check the machine ID. If required, enter the correct machine ID.
Check the status of the active diagnostic code. Expected Result:The latest version of software has been flashed to the Advisor, the machine ID is correct, and the diagnostic code is no longer active.Results:
YES - After flashing the latest version of software to the Advisor, the diagnostic code is no longer active. The new software has corrected the problem.STOP
NO - The new software has not corrected the problem. Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 3. CHECK THE STATUS OF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the Engine.
