1400 Frame Diode Removal and Installation
Personal injury or death can result from high voltage.When power generation equipment must be in operation to make tests and/or adjustments, high voltage and current are present.Improper test equipment can fail and present a high voltage shock hazard to its user.Make sure the testing equipment is designed for and correctly operated for high voltage and current tests being made.When servicing or repairing electric power generation equipment:
Make sure the unit is off-line (disconnected from utility and/or other generators power service) , and either locked out or tagged DO NOT OPERATE.
Remove all fuses.
Make sure the generator engine is stopped.
Make sure all batteries are disconnected.
Make sure all capacitors are discharged.Failure to do so could result in personal injury or death. Make sure residual voltage in the rotor, stator and the generator is discharged.
Diode Removal
Disconnect the battery that supplies power to the generator. Refer to the "Battery or Battery Cable - Disconnect" section of OMM, SEBU8100 for battery disconnect information.
Remove the rear access panel (1) of the control housing assembly.

The options that the generator is equipped with will determine the panels that need to be removed in order to access the diode assemblies. There may be a need to remove other terminal box access panels. If needed, then remove the required front (3) or side access panel(s).

Label each component or make alignment marks (20) on the components. Refer to Illustration 5.
Disconnect the main rotor leads (6) that are connected to each of the diode crescents (7). Note: Inspect the main rotor lead wires for any damage before assembly. Inspect the ring terminals that are at the end of the wires for any cracks or damage.
