(B) Worn beltInspect the condition of the serpentine belt. Over time the belt ribs will lose material (C). The space between the ribs will increase (D). The loss of material will cause the pulley sheave to contact the belt valley. This will lead to belt slippage and accelerated wear (E). Replace the belt if the belt is worn or frayed.Alternator Belt

Open the lower rear access doors on both sides of the machine.
Inspect the condition of the alternator belts.
Check the tension of the alternator belts.The tension of a used alternator belt with more than 30 minutes of operation at rated speed should be 489 44 N (110 10 lb). The tension of a new alternator belt with 30 minutes of operation or less at rated speed should be 800 22 N (180 5 lb).If the alternator belts require adjustment or replacement, proceed to Step 4.

Loosen mounting bolts (1) and adjusting locknut (2).
Turn adjusting nut (3) until the correct belt tension is reached.
Tighten adjusting locknut (3) to a torque of 110 10 N m (81.1 7.4 lb ft).
Tighten mounting bolts (1).
Recheck the belt tension. If the tension is incorrect, repeat the adjustment procedure.
Close the lower rear access doors on both sides of the machine.Air Conditioner Belt

Open the upper forward access door on the left side of the machine.
Inspect the condition of the air conditioner belt. Inspect the belt for wear and for cracking.

If the belt requires replacement, perform the following steps.
Turn the belt tensioner in order to release the tension from the belt.
Remove the belt.
Install a new belt.
Turn the belt tensioner back into the position.
Close the upper forward access door on the left side of the machine.
