Mark the lever on the center of the lever shaft. Refer to Illustration 3.
Push the lever all the way forward. Slowly pull back the propel lever until the neutral light on the dash illuminates.
Stop and mark the rubber boot with a pen. The mark should be centered with the mark on the control lever shaft.
Pull the lever slowly rearward until the neutral light turns off.
Stop and mark the rubber boot with a pen. The mark should be centered with the mark on the control lever shaft.
Position the lever in the neutral detent position. Verify that the mark on the lever is not near either of the marks on the rubber boot.
If adjustment is required, loosen the bolt slightly in order to allow the spring to slip.
Engage the neutral detent roller into the cam. Position the lever so that the mark on the lever is halfway between the two marks on the rubber boot.
The bolt hole in the frame of the propel lever can be slightly enlarged. The enlarged bolt hole will allow more adjustment of the detent spring.
With the lever in the center position and the detent roller in the detent on the cam, tighten the bolt that holds the spring. Make sure that the roller is centered on the cam. If the detent spring will not allow the handle to be positioned at the exact midpoint between the marks, adjust the spring in order to get the handle as close to the midpoint as possible.
After the adjustment has been made, move the propel lever to the full forward position. Make sure that the neutral light goes out. Move the propel lever back into neutral. Make sure that the neutral light comes on when the roller spring is engaged in the detent position. Move the propel lever into full reverse. Make sure that the neutral light goes out. Move the propel lever back to neutral. Make sure that the neutral light comes on when the roller spring is fully engaged in the detent position. Repeat the movement several times. When the propel lever is placed in the neutral detent position, make sure that the neutral light illuminates consistently. The neutral light should no longer be illuminated when the propel lever is moved out of the neutral band. Repeat Step 6 through Step 10, if necessary.
Install the console
