Start the engine and move the machine so that the machine is positioned in front of the boom nose.

Move the machine in order to align the upper bores in boom foot (7) with upper bores (A) in boom nose (6) .

Install expandable pins. The expandable pins are used to secure the boom foot to the boom nose.

Before assembling the parts of the boom, ensure that the pin bores are correctly aligned.
Personal injury or death can result from lifting a heavy component.The heavy component can fall if using an incorrect hoist and/or sling or fastener to lift the load.Be sure the hoist and other devices have the correct lifting capacity to lift a heavy component. The approximate weight of the heavy component is given below.
Note: The expandable pin assembly weighs approximately 62 kg (137 lb). Use a 1U-8221 Lifting Sling as a choke on the pin. Attach the lifting sling to a hoist. Use the hoist and the lifting sling for supporting and maneuvering the pin.
Lubricate the sleeves, the ends of the bolts, and the expandable pins.Note: Caterpillar recommends the use of 5% molybdenum grease for lubricating the sleeves, bolts, and expandable pins. Refer to Special Publication, SEBU6250, "Caterpillar Machine Fluids Recommendations" for more information on molybdenum grease.

Insert the expandable pin into the higher bores of the boom foot and the boom nose.
Mount the sleeves (5) inside the bores of the boom nose. On each face of the sleeves, tighten washer (3) with four bolts (2) .
Repeat Step 10 on the opposite side of the pin.
Tighten expandable pin (1) on washer (3) with bolt (4) .
Repeat Step 12 on the opposite side of the pin.
Tighten each bolt (4) to the correct torque.

Repeat Steps 9 through 14 for the lower pin bores.

Connect the grease lines and the electrical wiring.
Connect quick connect couplers (8) and connectors (10) that are located on boom foot (7) .
Unplug the hydraulic hoses.
Install bolts, clamps, and hydraulic hoses for ball valves (9) .
Open ball valves (9) that are located on boom foot (7) .
Remove the pin and the lock pin from the bracket and the support arrangement.
Start the engine.

Slowly adjust the boom foot in order to align lower bores (B) of boom foot (7) with the lower bores in boom nose (6) .Note: Select the appropriate lower bore in order to have the desired configuration (bent boom or straight boom).
