Caterpillar has a new on-line computer system available over the DTS to U.S. and Canadian Dealers. The new system is called the Product Information System. This system allows you to cross-reference component serial numbers to prime product serial numbers and to the customer name and address. Using the system, U.S. and Canadian Dealers can call up customer address information with the serial number of either a major component or a prime product. When you enter the serial number of a major component, the computer will show you the serial number of the prime product as well as other sales information. The Product Information System offers a number of benefits to both customers and dealers.

... Customer notification allows more accurate communication of problems to customers. The cross-referenced list makes it possible to notify only the customers who have the machines concerned. Dealers no longer need to inspect products and engines to decide if the PIP applies. Travel time is reduced.
