Make a reference to the article with the same title in this edition.--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------A new differential oil pressure gauge is used on D379, D398 and D399 Industrial, Marine and Generator Set Engines. This gauge can be used to check the differential oil pressure between the unfiltered and filtered oil. This will give an indication of the oil filter condition. This new gauge is used as a replacement for the 6J468 Indicator Assembly.
Modifications can be made to the oil filter groups on the D379, D398 and D399 Industrial, Marine and Generator Set Engines so that the differential oil pressure between the unfiltered and filtered oil can be checked. Use the procedure that follows to make the necessary modifications.
1. Remove the 6J468 Indicator Assembly, 3H2388 Seal and 5M6214 Plug from the oil filter group. See the Illustration.2. Install a 2M9780 O-Ring Seal and a 1W8290 Adapter in the hole that the indicator assembly was removed from.3. Connect two oil lines to the 5N8271 Differential Pressure Gauge. Connect the other end of one of these lines to the opening the 5M6214 Plug was removed from. Connect the other end of the second oil line to the 1W8290 Adapter.
