Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide"for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Loosen the screw on 232-7304 Manual Valve Gp (2) in order to release the pressure in the boom cylinders.
Disconnect the accumulators. Remove hose (3) and hose (4) .
Replace 148-8435 Tee As (1) with a 6V-8724 Elbow, a 6V-8397 O-Ring Seal, and a 3J-1907 O-Ring Seal. Install the elbow assembly between the balance line and 232-7304 Manual Valve Gp (2). Torque the elbow to 24 + 3 N m (18 + 2 lb ft).

Use 105-3482 Bolts (9) in order to attach the accumulators to a 287-1830 Plate As. Position the plates on the boom cylinders. Use a 288-0857 Clamp (8) in order to clamp each of the 287-1830 Plate As to the boom cylinder. Refer to Illustration 2.Note: Use 288-0857 Clamps (8) on (S/N: PAN) machines. Use 288-0856 Clamps (8) on (S/N: XJA) machines.
Connect a 287-2969 Hose As (5) to the port on the external side of the boom lowering control valve. Use a 6V-9850 Elbow and a 6V-8397 O-Ring Seal (7) .
Connect hose (5) to the accumulators with a 6V-9200 Elbow, a 6V-8397 O-Ring Seal, and a 3J-7354 O-Ring Seal (6) .
Adjust the position of the accumulators so that hose (5) is routed safely.Note: Be sure to position the accumulators in the vertical plane in order to avoid contact with
