At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the breather filter cap only when the engine is stopped and the breather filter cap is cool enough to touch. Slowly loosen the breather filter cap to release any pressure in the hydraulic tank. Be cautious of hot hydraulic oil when any lines are disconnected in the hydraulic system.
Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires and tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all lines, hoses and tubes to prevent foreign material from entering the system. Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage or disposal.1. Drain the oil from the torque converter. 2. Disconnect oil line (1) from the torque converter outlet relief valve.3. Remove the bolts and torque converter relief valve (2) from the torque converter. The following steps are for the installation of the torque converter outlet relief valve.4. Inspect and make a replacement of the seals if necessary.5. Put torque outlet relief valve in position on the torque converter and install the bolts.6. Connect oil line (1) to the torque converter. Refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual for all fluid capacities and the proper filling procedures.Disassemble & Assemble Torque Converter Outlet Relief Valve
Start By:a. remove torque converter outlet relief valve 1. Remove seals (1) from torque converter outlet relief valve (2). 2. Remove the bolts and cover (3) from the valve group. 3. Remove valve spool (7) from the valve group.4. Remove spring (6) and spacers (5) from valve spool (7).5. Remove seal (4) from the valve group. 6. Remove ring (11), retainer (10), spring (9) and poppet (8) from valve spool (7). 7. If necessary remove the bolts, cover (12) and the seal from the valve group. The following steps are for the assembly of the torque converter outlet relief valve. 1. Put seal (13) in position on torque converter outlet relief valve (2) and install cover (12). 2. Install poppet (8), spring (9), retainer (10) and ring (11) in valve spool (7) as shown. Make sure the shoulder on retainer (10) is toward spring (9) when it is installed. 3. Install spacers (5) and spring (6) in valve spool (7).4. Install valve spool (7) in the valve group. Spacers (5) are used to make an adjustment to the pressure needed to open the torque converter relief valve. See Power Shift Transmission Testing And Adjusting for the correct pressure setting.5.
