1. Raise the front of the machine by extending the suspension cylinders.2. Install two 50 ton screw jacks (1) under the front bumper.
Be sure the engine has been stopped for a minimum of five minutes. Make sure all of the pressure in the system is released before any lines are disconnected.
The suspension system may drop the machine suddenly, leaving no clearance between the axle housing, main frame, tires and mud guards. Working in these areas can result in personal injury or death by crushing. Stay clear until the engine is stopped and the suspension is lowered into the service position.
3. Remove two bolts (2) from the bottom end of the accumulator. If the suspension cylinders are not extended, it is probable that the tire will have to come off in order to remove bolts (2) as illustrated in illustration C41153P1. 4. Remove one bolt (3) and then open the cover (4) to expose the accumulator. 5. Disconnect two lines (5) and (6) from the accumulator. 6. Fasten tool (A) to the top of the accumulator.7. Remove one nut from the metal mounting strap and then remove the accumulator (7). Weight of the accumulator is 61 Kg (135 lbs.). The following steps are for the installation of the accumulator.8. Put accumulator (7) in position in the mounting strap and install the mounting nut.9. Connect two lines (5) and (6) to the accumulator.10. Close cover (4) and then install bolt (3).11. Install the two bolts (2) at the bottom of the accumulator.12. Remove the two 50 ton screw jacks from under the front bumper.13. Lower the machine.
If the accumulator needs to be charged, dry nitrogen is the only gas approved for use in the accumulators. The charging of oxygen gas in these components by accident will cause an explosion. This danger can be avoided by the use of nitrogen cylinders with standard CGA (Compressed Gas Association Inc.) No. 580 connections. Do not go by color codes or other methods of identification to tell the difference between nitrogen and oxygen cylinders. In any application never use an adaptor to connect your nitrogen charging group to a valve outlet used on both nitrogen, oxygen or other gas cylinders. Be sure you use dry nitrogen.

Start By:a. remove accumulator 1. Mount the accumulator onto a suitable holding device. Place two bolts into holes on end cap. Place bar (C) between two bolts. Remove the end cap. Before installing the end cap, replace the O-ring. Then, tighten the end cap to a torque of 610 N m (450 lb ft). 2. Remove backup seal (2) and O-ring seal (1) from end cap (3). 3. Remove circlip (4) with tooling (B), then remove poppet (6) and poppet guide (5) from end cap (3). 5. Attach tooling (A) to piston (7) and remove the piston.6. Remove the two seal assemblies and wear ring from the piston. Remove other end cap only if necessary.
