Remove Aftercooler Cores (D348 Vehicular Engine Illustrated)
1. Drain the cooling system. 2. Disconnect equalizer line (1) from aftercooler air inlet line.3. Disconnect governor control linkage from the governor. Remove the governor control channel assembly.4. Remove aftercooler air inlet line retaining clamp and bolt from turbocharger housing.5. Remove aftercooler vent lines from front of aftercooler housing. 6. Remove the fuel supply line and fuel return line clamp mounting bolt (2) from front of aftercooler housing (right side only).7. Remove the four cover assembly mounting bolts. Pull the cover assembly (3) out of housing.8. Remove the aftercooler upper housing mounting bolts. Remove the aftercooler upper housing. 9. Remove the aftercooler water inlet elbow (4). Pull the sleeve assembly (5) out of aftercooler core.10. Remove the aftercooler water outlet elbow mounting bolts from rear of aftercooler lower housing. Rotate the elbow (6) away from housing. Pull the sleeve assembly (7) out of aftercooler core.11. Remove the aftercooler core - weight 90 lbs. (41 kg).Install Aftercooler Cores (D348 Vehicular Engine Illustrated)
1. Thoroughly clean old gaskets from mating surfaces of aftercooler core and upper and lower housings.2. Install a new core-to-lower housing gasket. Install the aftercooler core into lower housing.3. Install the sleeve assemblies in front and rear of aftercooler lower housing.
Be sure that drain hole in sleeve assemblies is in downward position.
4. Position the water outlet elbow to rear of aftercooler housing and install mounting bolts.5. Install the water inlet elbow on front of aftercooler housing.6. Install a new core-to-upper housing gasket. Install the aftercooler upper housing and mounting bolts.7. Install aftercooler air inlet line retaining clamp and bolt in turbocharger housing.8. Install the cover assembly in front of aftercooler housing. Install cover assembly mounting bolts.9. Install fuel supply line and fuel return line clamp mounting bolt in right aftercooler housing.10. Connect equalizer pipe to aftercooler air inlet line.11. Install the aftercooler vent lines.12. Install the governor control channel assembly. Connect governor control linkage to governor.13. Fill the cooling system.
