Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove drain plug (1) in order to drain the final drive. Drain the oil into a suitable container. Install plug (1).

Install Tool (A) to cover (2). Install a suitable lifting device to Tool (A). Remove the cover. The cover weighs approximately 25 kg (55 lb).

Install Tool (B) to axle shaft (3). Partially remove the axle shaft.

Install a suitable lifting device to axle shaft (3). Remove the axle shaft. The right axle shaft weighs approximately 35 kg (77 lb). The left axle shaft weighs approximately 55 kg (120 lb).
