start by:a) remove timing gear cover 1. Check to be sure the No. 1 piston is at top center compression position. Install the timing pin in the flywheel and in the fuel injection pump. Remove bolt and washer (2) from fuel pump drive gear.2. Install two 1/2 in. washers (1) between washer (2) and the sleeve on the fuel pump. Install the bolt and washer in the fuel pump drive gear. 3. Put tooling (A) in position as shown and loosen the fuel pump drive gear.4. Remove tooling (A). Remove the bolt and washers. Remove fuel pump drive gear (3). 5. Remove the bolts and remove plate (4). Remove fuel pump idler gear (5). 6. Remove bearing (6) from fuel pump idler gear with tooling (B). 7. Remove bolts (7). Remove camshaft drive gear (8). 8. Remove the nuts and washers from the three studs (10) that hold the fuel injection pump to the timing gear plate.9. Remove bolts and locks (9). Remove timing gear plate (11).Install Timing Gears And Plate
1. Put a new gasket on the plate. Put timing gear plate (1) in position on the cylinder block. Install the locks and bolts that hold the timing gear plate. Install the nuts and washers that hold the fuel injection pump to the timing gear plate. Cut the gasket even with the bottom of the cylinder block. 2. Install camshaft drive gear (2) with the "V" mark on the camshaft drive gear in alignment with the "V" mark on the crankshaft gear. Install the bolts that hold the camshaft gear in position. 3. Install bearing (3) in the fuel pump idler gear with tooling (A) to a depth of 1.52 mm (.060 in.) below front surface of idler gear.4. Install idler gear (4). Install plate (5) and bolts that hold the gear in position. 5. Put the fuel drive gear (6) in position on the fuel pump. Install the bolt and washer that holds it finger tight only. 6. Install tooling (B) on the fuel pump drive gear as shown. Put a torque of approximately 70 N m (50 lb. ft.) on the fuel pump drive gear in a clockwise direction (as seen from the front of the engine). With the clockwise torque on the pump drive gear, tighten the bolt to a torque of 149 7 N m (110 5 lb. ft.).end by:a) install timing gear cover
