This Containment Program can only beadministered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply theProgram is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS20034"as the Part number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the WarrantyClaim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code. The information supplied in this serviceletter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Remove failed exhaust tube assembly and clampson right side.
Clean and restore the mating exhaust manifoldand turbo Y manifold flange faces for proper sealing of the exhaust tubes.
Loosely install new 1944773 Tube Assembly andtwo 8N0879 clamps at each end of the new tube (if new clamps are needed).Refer to Illustration 1.
Verify acceptable tube alignment exists at theexhaust manifold and turbo Y manifold locations, to avoid creating excessivetube stresses during assembly tightening.
Torque the 8N0879 Clamps to 7.5 +/- 1.8 N m(67 +/- 16 Lb-In).
Do NOT install a center support clamp withthe new 1944773 Tube.
Some earlier machines have an additionalBracket and Center Clamp to support the center of the former 1229287 ExhaustTube Assembly. Refer to Illustration 2. The bracket should be left in place,but will not be used with the new tube assembly. Discard the Center Clamp.
After exhaust tube replacement, operate the engineunder load for at least 5 minutes. Verify no leakage remains within theexhaust system. Then re-torque the clamps to 7.5 +/- 1.8 N m.
