(1) The cutoff wheel should be no larger than 3 inches in diameter. Use a thin cutoff wheel To prevent heat buildup on the cartridge pin. The thickness of the cutoff wheel should be 0.90 mm (0.035 inch) thick.Cutting the Track Link
Use this procedure to remove the track links if the SystemOne tooling method will not remove the track links while using the maximum force designed for the tooling.
Due to excessive corrosion, rust, or contamination, the Multi-Pitch Track Press, or the Portable Track Press may not be able to remove the SystemOne track links. If all attempts have been made To use the Multi-Pitch Track Press or the Portable Track Press and the track link cannot be removed, remove all the tooling.
Install the mandrel into the die grinder. Install the cutoff wheel onto the mandrel. Make sure that all the components are tight. The grinder can spin up to 20,000 rpm.

Use the proper protective equipment. Hearing protection, safety glasses, and a full face shield should be worn.
Verify that any sparks that are created will not allow any combustible material to burn. Use the appropriate protective devices if combustible materials are present. Make sure that a fire extinguisher is readily available if combustible materials are present.

This procedure does not require the track link to be cut completely through To reduce the force that is required to remove the track link. Take extreme caution while cutting the outside track link. Do not allow the cutoff wheel to contact the SystemOne link box assembly or the cartridge pins. Any contact with the cutoff wheel and the link box assembly or the cartridge pin will create a stress riser. The stress riser may lead to a failure in the future.
Use the die grinder to grind (cut) into the outer track link above the cartridge pin. Grind the outer track link as close as possible to the cartridge pin and the link box assembly. Do not contact the cartridge pin or the link box assembly.

Repeat Step 4 shown in Illustration 5 for the adjoining link box assembly cartridge pin on the same track link. The link should be cut as shown by the arrows in Illustration 6.

Multi-Pitch Track Press
Install the Portable Track Press or the Multi-Pitch Track Press. Use the procedure that is specified in Undercarriage Reconditioning Bulletin, REHS2496, "Field Repair of SystemOne Track with the SystemOne Portable Track Press" or Undercarriage Reconditioning Bulletin, SEBF9100, "Field Repair of SystemOne Track with the Multi-Pitch Track Press". Remove the track link.Note: The guard for the portable track press has been removed for photographic purposes.
