The pump is mounted to the upper left flywheel housing on the rear of the engine. The input shaft of the pump engages the flywheel of the engine in order to drive the pump.Note: The following description is for only one of the rotating groups in the pump.When the engine is running, shaft (1) and barrel (6) are rotating. There are nine pistons (5) in barrel (6). Port plate (8) and swashplate (2) are stationary within the pump housing. Port plate (8) and swashplate (2) do not rotate. Spring (7) maintains a force against barrel (6) and port plate (8). When barrel (6) is rotating, each piston (5) follows the angle of swashplate (2) .If the angle of swashplate (2) is zero, pistons (5) do not move in and out of barrel (6) and there is no oil flow. Charge oil maintains oil pressure in the pump in order to perform the following tasks:
Keep barrel (6) full of oil.
Lubricate the pump components.
Provide makeup oil for internal loss of oil from leakage.
Provide pilot oil to the servo valve in order to shift actuator piston (3) and change the angle of swashplate (2) .The position of swashplate (2) is determined by actuator piston (3). The winch control lever that is located on the right console sends signals to the implement electronic control module (ECM). The ECM interprets the signals and the ECM sends pulse width modulated signals to the solenoids on either side of the servo valve. As the servo valve is shifted to either direction, signal oil gets filtered through the pilot oil screens. The signal oil then travels to the corresponding end of actuator piston (3) .As actuator piston (3) begins to move, the angle of swashplate (2) begins to increase. As piston (5) follows swashplate (2), pistons (5) begin to move in and out of barrel (6). As piston (5) moves out of barrel (6), oil is drawn from one side of the closed loop from port (9) through port plate (8). As piston (5) follows swashplate (2) and the piston moves into barrel (6), the oil is pushed through port plate (8) into the passage to port (4) of the other side of the closed loop.As the angle of swashplate (2) increases, the output flow of the pump also increases.Crossover Relief and Makeup Valves
