Removal Procedure
Start By:
Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR1500, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
Install the retaining cable. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR1500, "Truck Body Retaining Cable - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
The space between the body and the frame becomes a zero clearance area when the body is lowered. Failure to install the retaining cable can result in injury or death to personnel working in this area.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: Put identification on all hose assemblies, on all hose assemblies and on all wire harnesses for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Drain the hydraulic oil from the hydraulic tank into a suitable container. The hydraulic tank contains approximately 420 L (111 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7173, "Hoist, Torque Converter and Brake Tank Oil - Change" for the correct procedure.
Position a suitable container under relief valve (1) in order to contain hydraulic oil for storage or disposal.
Disconnect hose assembly (2) from relief valve (1).
Remove three bolts (3), the hard washers, and the clip in order to remove relief valve (1) and the seals from the torque converter.
