Remove the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove bolt (1) that fastens gear (2) in position on the shaft.

Remove gear (2) from the shaft with Tool (A).

Remove key (3) from the shaft.

Typical example
Remove four bolts and cover (4). Remove two bolts (8) and retainer (7). Remove spring (6) and plunger (5) from the oil pump housing. Inspect the ring on plunger (5). Replace the ring if the ring is damaged.

Use Tool (B) to remove two bearings (9) from cover (4), if the cover is equipped with bearings.

Remove two shaft assemblies (10) from the oil pump body.

Use Tool (B) to remove two bearings (12) from the oil pump body. Remove two dowels (13) from the oil pump body.
