ACTION REQUIRED
If the machine is experiencing the described symptoms the 6E2925 Main Steering Control Valve can be replaced with an improved 301-4605 Control Valve.
Since machines can be field converted from standard steering to secondary steering, you need to identify the steering configuration of the main steering control valve. In order to determine which configuration the machine is equipped with, refer to Images 1 and 2. Image 1 is for standard steering, and Image 2 is for secondary steering.
This program only applies to machines with standard steering. If the steering configuration has been modified please contact the local Dealer Technical Communicator (T/C). The Dealer Technical Communicator (T/C) will contact the Caterpillar Hydraulic & Hydraulic Systems (H&HS) Service Engineering Group for additional instructions.

PARTS DISPOSITION
Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.
Rework Procedure
1. Park the machine on a flat surface away from operating equipment.
2. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
3. Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual "Hydraulic System-Pressure Release".
Cleanliness is an important consideration when servicing any hydraulic component or system. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component(s) should be thoroughly cleaned. This will prevent contamination from entering the system.
Put identification marks on all lines, tubes, hoses, and wiring harness assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and keeps contaminants from entering the system.
4. Remove the 6E2925 Main Steering Control Valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly Manual, RENR6266 for the 990 Series II and RENR8826 for the 990H, for instructions.
If the machine has previously been modified with an external pilot drain line, the 214-0735 Hose Assembly must be removed and the 6V8636 Adapter replaced with the original Quick-Connect Test Fitting (6V3965) and Dust Cap (6V0852). (See Image 1.1.1 Modified Configuration and 1.2.1 Original Configuration)

6. Check the hydraulic fluid level. Add hydraulic fluid if necessary.
7. Remove the steering frame lock.
8. Perform functional steering test prior to re-commissioning machine.
