1. Use a hoist and lifting bracket (A) to put the ring gear and hub in position inside wheel.2. Install the retainer without shims using five bolts (four bolts in former eight bolt housings) that are spaced apart the same amount.3. Tighten the fastening bolts gradually until all bolts have a torque of 35 5 lb.ft. (4,8 0,7 mkg) for 9/16"-12NC bolts or 45 5 lb.ft. (6,2 0,7 mkg) for former 1/2"-13NC bolts. Be sure to turn the wheel slowly while tightening these bolts so bearings will be correctly seated.4. To find the correct amount of shims to install, use the following procedure:a) Use a 0 to 1 inch depth micrometer (1) to measure through the two forcing screw holes (2) and find the average depth from face of retainer to end of spindle.b) Use a 0 to 1 inch outside micrometer (3) to measure the thickness of retainer (4) next to the two tapped holes in retainer.c) Subtract the average thickness of retainer from the average depth. The correct amount of shims for machines with ten bolt spindle housings will be .015 in. (0,38 mm) more than the calculated distance between retainer and end of spindle housing. The correct amount of shims for machines with the former eight bolt housing is .010 in. (0,25 mm) more than the calculated distance between retainer and end of spindle housing.5. Remove the retainer and bolts. Install the retainer with correct amount of shims. Tighten the 9/16"-12NC bolts to a torque of 135 15 lb.ft. (18,7 2,1 mkg). Tighten the former 1/2"-13NC bolts to 100 10 lb.ft. (13,8 1,4 mkg).6. Install lock wire on fastening bolts. Be sure the wire does not go over bolt heads.7. Remove blocks or stands, and lower machine.end by:a. install planetary carrier assemblies
